"Action Speaks Louder Than Words"

This proverb has a great meaning to human's daily life. To get ideas and understand one another, we communicate. We can express our ideas with or without words(nonverbal communication).

Personally i feel that nonverbal communication plays a big role in our life. It helps us to find jobs as well as understand the message sent by other party deeply. For example, through nonverbal communication, we can examine the party's body and facial language. We can see whether he is sad or happy. In this case, we can find the underlying meaning of what the person says more accurately with our own eyes.

I believe that it is not good enough for us to just focus mainly at the sentences said by the party.Furthermore, verbal message tend to give us to have only one perception of thinking. We will not fully understand the meaning behind the verbal communication.

Due to the globalization, there are thousands of people that come form different background with the uniques cultures and languages. If we use verbal communication, there will be some 'conflict'. This is because the words that we think is appropriate might not be appropriate for others.

However, if we use nonverbal communication, we are 'kind' of safe. Through the facial expressions, we can present our ideas without being afraid of being insensitive to others. in this context, we respects others cultures and not to be rude.

According to the research done , 'Spoken language is only 7-15% of communication. Thus, with the respect to the proverb stated above,"(Action Speaks Louder Than Words") and the statistics, i strongly believe that nonverbal plays critical role in our life compare to verbal communication. However, it should be noted that nonverbal works together with verbal communication, They help to bring and define the message accurately.

What do you guys think of this perception?

  1. Nonverbal communications are good to some extent but they can also be ambiguous sometimes. In daily life communication, verbal communications are mostly used and nonverbal communications makes clearer of the message that we are conveying. So, I agree with the perception stated in the text.

  2. Action speaks louder than words so here i am as promised!

I am a avid believer of non-verbal communication, especially body language, as it does not lies. When discussing about non-verbal language, i will not consider facial expression as part of non verbal communication as it is not an accurate source of information. Nevertheless, facial expression is still one of the very first place we get cues from.

As for perceptions, i think there are too many things that influences that a certain perception may not even hold true, over time, for a person. Instead, perceptions is so subjective that it can be a process of round resoning with no end in sight. As such, there shouldn't be much value given to perception since it can often be judgemental and bias towards preferences.

Lastly, i do not really agree with verbal giving only a single perception since words can have various meaning when being combined. Rather, verbal language offers us such a wide variety of ways to percieve it that we are often trapped with a specific way, phrased and understood by norm, to interpret; therefore verbal should be complemented by non-vebal communication to make complete sense.

  3. I agree with the sentence "action speaks louder than words". Just as you said, without these actions these actions of body language, we might not be able to understand the emotion of the person who is talking to us, whether he is happy or angry. Moreover, sometimes body language may even help us to detect whether the person is telling us the truth or the opposite.

  4. I also think that non verbal communication is very crucial in our daily life. It has many functions, such as, repeating, contradicting, substituting, complementing, etc. When the non verbal communication is contradicting our verbal communication, 'it shows that action speaks louder than words'. However, non verbal communication is not totally safe. Culture in every country is different. Similarly, non verbal action might means different in different country. Hence, it is important to understand the underlying meaning of certain non verbal cue before we use it. It will reduce the possibillities of offending other people.

  5. True that by non verbal communication, we could express ourselves how we feel without being afraid or offend anyone but at the same time, verbal communication is also important in a sense of what we think. So I think that verbal and non verbal communication should have a balance when it comes to communication as it allows an individual to understand and absorb the information being given.

  6. I strongly agree with the last sentence " I strongly believe that nonverbal plays critical role in our life compare to verbal communication. However, it should be noted that nonverbal works together with verbal communication, They help to bring and define the message accurately."

I think it is great that the writer can balance out the importance of actions and words. Cause if actions speak louder than words, than why do everyone needs to learnt at least a language in every country. Actions is as important as words, nothing surpass each other and they works in harmony delivering the desire messages.

  7. HAHA!
actually from the very start at looking at the sentence "Action Speaks Louder Than Words", i have always thought it is do the things rather then just empty talking without any actions.

I actually took on the stand that verbal communication is more important rather then non-verbal. Because i find that non-verbal communication takes longer time to understand. Just try sampling taking to your friends by pointing rather then talking. 9 out of 10 they will not be able to successfully understand what type of a sign you are showcasing.and often misinterpretation will take place. Therefor i deem verbal communication as a more important tool rather then non-verbal communication.

  8. well, nonverbal communication is practiced in our daily life all the time, whether intentionally or otherwise. it is useful when we use it as a complementary tool to facilitate our words, but it can also give ourselves away in situations such as interview mentioned in your entry. haha, so be cautious, girl~~~=)

  9. I believe that 'Action speak louder than words' could also be used to what we spoke. If we have spoken something without doing it, there are no meaning to it. However, if we have put something in action, we could actually have done it.
However, I don't think that non-verbal communication could bring us closer to each other. Without speaking, we could hardly understand each other and we could have misunderstood each other. That is why, this proves why we are closer to the people that speak the same language as us. We could understand them much better than other people who uses other languages that we do not understand.
On the other hand, non-verbal communication might express things that cannot be expressed by word, such as putting action promises or even love towards each other. However, we might not fully understand what the other party means without words. Therefore, I think that action and words are equally important.

  10. As the title says, the nonverbal communication indeed is better than words in one way. When people from different countries or cultures, they may not talk in the same language. With the body language and gesture, they can communicate one another. Facial expression also displays the speaker's mood. I heard a research once that you can identify that a person is lying when you look into his eyes while hes talking. If hes looking to the left, he is most probably being honest, and if its to the right, hes trying to conceal something. However, some misunderstanding is inevitable because some body gestures may mean differently in each country.

  11. Well, i do agree that Actions speaks louder than words. With so many different cultures & languages, common body languages connects us. Through spoken words, people can 'edit' what they had thought which their actions may show otherwise.
Even though i agree that actions does speaks louder than words, however i do also agree that spoken words does "help to bring and define the message accurately." body languages can only be used as a common language to a certain extend. Verbal communications enhance them. So no matter how these 'non-verbal' communications works, verbal communication is always essential.

  12. I think non verbal communication is something that plays an even more important role in communicating ideas than verbal communication. That is because you can say something but your facial expressions can communicate something totally different; that is your true emotion. So if you really want to know whether the person is telling the truth, just at his or her facial expressions (not necessarily the eyes; it could be the clenching of the jaw or a twitch) :)

  13. I do agree with the comments above. Actions indeed speak louder than words. Sometime people only promised you yet they do not compromised their promise, which I sometimes dislike it.
Also, I agree that non-verbal cues are important as it plays a big part in expressing out the other party views.

  14. I agree that action do speak louder than words. Especially when you're going to compare yourself to others. The winner would definitely be the person who proves himself through action rather than words.
Many of us can blabber anything to make ourselves look good in front of others. Ultimately we still have to prove ourselves worthy. Its easy to talk without fulfilling what you said. Hence, actions do speak louder than words.

  15. Action definitely speaks louder than words. Sometimes our emotions are being shown out without us even realizing it. I think it is a good channel for us to communicate with other people without having to say out anything. Some things might be sensitive to talk face to face about, but with our actions, we could show support and care our loved ones.

  16. I think verbal combine with non-verbal communication is perfect!I can't imagine, talking with someone without any body language. On the other hand, we should use non-verbal communication carefully. Since, each culture has different explanation of a non-verbal communication. For example, most of us nod which implies yes, but some people won't define so.

  17. Non-verbal communication is perfect because when you're able to get it right doesn't mean everyone gets it and in life not everyone has had the opportunity to learn, you would find that they really want to learn but they don't have the opportunity to learn.... And the best way is to offer non-verbal communication which will enable them to express their views and experiences in different situations.
