The Perspective Of Communication

http://www.cwtv.com/shows/the-vampire-diaries
All about vampire!!!!!
the series is about the life of a girl that falls in love with two vampires brothers. She is involved in the triangle relationship.

Wait, before that how can many people know about this series?Well the answer is through communication.

Through communication, we interact and know things happening around us as well as getting the information that we want, for instance, vampire. So how we get a good communication?

There are few of perspective on how communication can be successful-Psychological perspective, social constructionist perspective as well as pragmatic perspective.

For me, i feel that the social constructionist perspective plays the most important role in helping us to have a better way of communication. I believe that most of what we know and the interest we have on particular thing, for instance, vampire world, is through communication rather than direct experience.

Furthermore, the reason of the popularity in the vampire series is because of our cognitive customs: the beliefs. People talk about vampire stuff in one way, and we also see it on that way. This is why communcation creates individual rather than individual creates communication(psychological perspective)..

So, what do you think of this view?
Do you agree or disagree with me?

  1. Well if you happen to have the experience of being in a psychology class, it can go both ways; communication creates individual and individual creates communication. It really depends on how a person perceives it. As for the few perspective on communication, I feel that you could have elaborated more on each aspect a little, if not a brief detail on what each of it means. You could not have said it any other way,the social constructionist perspective is how anyone obtains information on certain things. Take vampire for instance, no one could have justified that these creatures are real and to find out more about these things, we could have searched for sources who know so much about them through another source, not likely that the person has a true life experience about vampires.

  2. There is certain truth in holding the social constructionist perspective accountable for make belief scenario, like the world of the vampire. It is justifiable that we are unable to experience their world. Thus, further enquirement on this subject will require us to communicate with others to assure our understanding.

However, i will like to discuss another view. We will have to watch the show before we can start discussing about it. Therefore, coming from a psychological perspective, individual will have to make sense of the world of vampires before he can make good a communication.

As such, i will feel that instead of sticking to one of the perspective, we should first state the direction in which we are coming from to discuss.

In fact, Social constructionist's view of our cognitive customs (In this case, how we process information of the show ) may then have as important a role as psychological perspective view of communication as a interactive model (In this case, how discussion is being carried out among friends) since both are required for us to understand the topic better.

Sidenote: I watch the show before at my friend's place! Interesting show.

  3. A lot of our communication depends on what we do obtain from the rest of the world. I think that's how the whole vampire hype begun. First it was Twilight then Tru Blood and now the Vampire Diaries. To be honest, this series would not have been popular without the word of mouth aka communication to others.

  4. I think that it can be both ways, either individual creates communication or communication crates individual. For intstance, when you affect others by your words, it shows that you the individual creates communication. However, when the you are the one affected from the communication, it shows that communication creates individuals.

  5. I am not entirely disagreeing with this point of view. True enough, communication between people is certainly an effective way of advertising of a certain product or even TV series such as the vampire diaries. However, nowadays, internet has also played an important part as a communication device as well. Moreover, internet can be seen by a larger mass of people, another reason why it is more effective. Therefore, in this modern society, internet may play a bigger role as a way to advertise than circulating news from mouth to mouth.

  6. Well communication is based by the words from each individual. If it wasn't for communication, i don't think that this movie could become popular among others. Without the help of these words through communication, many people would not know about this movie.

  7. "communication creates individual" or "individual creates communication". Well, im actually quite thorn by this for a moment.

What you have stated that communication actually creates individual for the fact that we are able to learn and know about stuff through communication rather then experience. Well, i suppose that is true in most cases for we may not be given the chance or time to carry out everything all by ourself.
But i think that individuals create communication rather then the opposite way. Because have you wondered that our a communication is able to come about? It is because it is a topic created by individuals.
It is just like we eat to live rather then live to eat.

  8. communication makes us know more about the world around us. we must communicate through in order to informed of the outside world as well as to let others know about our perspectives. a certain thing gains its popularity is a result of communication, of course:)

  9. I agree with your point of view. Communication through social constructionist perspective is the most important way to help us improve our communications. This series could not have been successful if not for the spread from mouth to mouth as i feel that this series has done very little advertising. Other movies such as twilight and new moon helped to push our interest on vampires and the creators of this series grab this opportunity.

  10. I think that communication has played a big role in our life. Without communication, we could never understand each other. From a long time ago, communication has been used to spread news or rumors. As an example, the book above is very popular and well-known because people are always talking about it. So, it is natural for us to know about that. This further influenced us psychologically to read the book as everyone says it is a good book. Even discussing about the book in internet is considered as communication. Without interacting and communicating with each other, I do not think that people will be able
to live a good life. Communication also further the connection the world such as globalisation.

  11. I do agree with you about how communication affects the social perspective as when something is talked among people such as the series as you mentioned, they will start to be influenced and get curious about that thing. Hence, this series can be getting more popular with more and more audience as the time goes. However, communication also affects how one thinks, and in this case, he may be biased by the story told by his friend. This may result in producing a prejudiced thought eventually.

  12. I have to agree that social perspective plays an important role in communication but I wont go to the extent of saying its the most important. Social perspective would have to work hand in hand with psychological perspective for with psychological perspective, ie beliefs, customs and such, then social communication helps to spread the knowledge of eg vampires even many generations down the road and the knowledge of vampires will never die off.

  13. I agree with what Cindy said. It can be both ways. In this case, we can say that individual is affected by communication but it is not always true. There can also be some cases where the individual affects the communication.

  14. After reading this, I can say that what you mean by 'communication' is indeed referring to various means of media, such as television, radio, magazines and newspapers, yes?
Not forgetting word of mouth too, Such as hearing from relatives and friends.

Communication does affect the individual, but the individual does affect communication too. How did communication come about in the first place? It is because there is the society in which word can be spread around.

The way people communicate things can affect how others see things as well.

  15. Well, I agree that social constructionist perspective plays a role in helping us to have a better way of communication, but I personally feel that Psychological perspective plays a bigger role in my point of view.

In psychological perspective, we imagine things we want them to be, in this point of view, this is only through individuals, and after what these individuals 'think' of things like this, they spread it through the communication you stated.

Also, I agree with your statement that communcation creates individual rather than individual creates communication, because, through communication, an individual can be affected, but an individual can't affect communication.

  16. "Communication creates individuals" that seems to be very true given the modernity of our current society. However, if one were to isolate oneself from birth by way of some unethical experiment, would one not develop a consciousness of his own in the end? I personally think that in order to truly agree with the first statement, you have to properly define what an individual is and more importantly what is required for one to be considered an individual.
